About the Program

The Sleep Skill Most Practitioners Have Never Been Taught

Sleep posture plays a critical role in pain, breathing, and overnight neurological recovery. Yet it is almost never addressed in professional training. The SPECS program teaches the science and applied practice of sleep positioning, equipping professionals to evaluate sleep posture, pillow setup, and body alignment across all sleep types.

Using a structured, systems-based framework, graduates learn to apply evidence-informed ergonomics strategies that reduce musculoskeletal strain, support easier breathing, and improve nighttime comfort in clinical, coaching, and wellness settings, including work with pregnancy, chronic pain, and PAP users.

619M people worldwide currently living with low back pain, making it the leading cause of disability globally
80% of adults will experience back pain in their lifetime, with mornings being the most common time for peak discomfort
8 hrs the longest sustained posture of any day, and the one most health professionals have never been trained to assess

Who It's For

If Your Clients Have Bodies, They Have Sleep Posture Problems

Poor sleep positioning affects pain, recovery, breathing, and daily function. This certification is built for any professional working in health or wellness.

Select a card to see how sleep positioning applies to your field.

Personal Trainers

Poor sleep positioning creates the muscle tension and joint strain your clients are trying to undo every session. Now you can address the source.

Nutritionists

Sleep posture affects breathing quality and recovery, both of which influence the metabolic and hormonal outcomes your clients are working toward.

Chiropractors

Your clients spend 7 to 9 hours a night in a posture you have never assessed. Sleep positioning is the missing piece of your spinal care work.

Therapists & Counselors

Physical discomfort and poor sleep quality feed anxiety and mood dysregulation. Addressing sleep posture supports the work you are already doing.

Life Coaches

Clients who wake up stiff, sore, or unrested struggle to show up for the habits and goals you are helping them build. Sleep posture is often why.

Clinicians & NPs

Sleep positioning directly affects conditions you treat daily, including reflux, sleep apnea, chronic pain, and post-surgical recovery.

Wellness Practitioners

A complete wellness approach includes what the body does for 8 hours every night. Sleep posture is a powerful and overlooked lever for whole-body health.

Anyone in Health & Wellness

If your clients have a spine, joints, and a need for overnight recovery, sleep positioning belongs in your toolkit.

"The longest held posture of the day is the one most professionals never assess."

What You'll Be Able to Do

Elevate Your Practice. Address What Others Miss.

SPECS gives you a specialized skill set that most professionals in your field simply do not have.

Differentiate Your Practice

Expand Your Revenue Streams

Add a specialized service clients are actively searching for. Sleep support that goes beyond hygiene and addresses real mechanical causes of pain and unrest.

Address the Root of Morning Pain

When clients wake up stiff, sore, or unrested, you will know exactly why and have the tools to help them fix it systematically, leading to fewer pain complaints and better recovery.

Work With Complex Cases

Gain scope-appropriate strategies for pregnancy, PAP users, chronic pain clients, and post-surgical recovery that most practitioners have never been trained to address.

The Curriculum

What's Inside the Certification

Three focused lessons, each building on the last. Every lesson includes video content, a quiz, and practical positioning frameworks you can use with clients immediately.

Lesson 1

Why Sleep Posture Matters

Sleep is not an idle state. It is a period of intense physiologic repair, recalibration, and pressure redistribution. Understanding nighttime alignment helps practitioners better address pain, breathing, and recovery concerns that clients present during the day.

Understand how sleep posture influences spinal alignment, muscle tension, circulation, and breathing efficiency
See how nighttime alignment interacts with the 24-hour postural system and impacts recovery, readiness, and daily function
Apply foundational sleep ergonomics principles to guide clients toward supportive, sustainable alignment habits
Recognize opportunities to integrate sleep ergonomics into coaching, virtual consultations, and client education

Lesson 2

Coaching Sleep Positioning for Back, Side, and Combination Sleepers

This lesson translates detailed biomechanical insights into practical coaching frameworks clinicians can use immediately. Instead of memorizing perfect postures, practitioners learn how to tailor alignment principles to real bodies, real mattresses, and real movement patterns.

Understand the advantages and limitations of each sleep position, including implications for spinal alignment, joint loading, breathing mechanics, and symptom patterns
Evaluate airway-related considerations such as snoring, congestion, reflux, and PAP tolerance when recommending back or side positioning
Use modular supports including pillows, wedges, towels, and bolsters to fine-tune alignment and reduce joint compression and nerve irritation
Guide clients through incremental posture modifications, prioritizing comfort, progress, and sustainability

Lesson 3

Special Cases and Advanced Positioning Adjustments

Some clients require more nuanced solutions based on symptoms, pregnancy, respiratory devices, or habitual belly sleeping. This lesson provides adaptable, scope-appropriate strategies rooted in safety, biomechanics, and physiologic support.

Reduce strain for belly sleepers and introduce safer semi-prone alternatives using thin pillows, pelvic support, and optimized limb positioning
Coach trimester-specific positioning strategies for pregnancy, including left-side sleep setups, lower-body support, and optional torso elevation
Help PAP users maintain neutral alignment, stable mask fit, airway openness, and minimize rotation that may disrupt therapy effectiveness
Adapt recommendations for clients with musculoskeletal conditions, mobility limitations, reflux, congestion, or pressure-intolerance concerns

Common Questions

Before You Enroll

Answers to the questions most practitioners ask before committing.

No. SPECS is designed for any professional working in health or wellness, regardless of clinical background. Personal trainers, life coaches, nutritionists, chiropractors, and nurse practitioners all work through the same curriculum. The material is evidence-based and clinically reviewed, but it is written and taught so that any practitioner can understand and apply it with clients immediately.

The core video instruction runs just over 30 minutes across three lessons. With lesson quizzes, the final exam, the practitioner toolkit, and the business guides, full engagement runs two to two and a half hours. Most practitioners finish in a single sitting. The course is entirely self-paced with no deadlines and lifetime access, so you can also work through it one lesson at a time.

Most sleep education covers hygiene: screens, caffeine, bedtime routines. Very little addresses what the body is actually doing for 7 to 9 hours every night. SPECS focuses specifically on sleep biomechanics, ergonomics, and positioning, a distinct area that has almost no coverage in standard professional training.

The curriculum is structured so you finish with a framework you can apply immediately. It is not a collection of tips. It is a systematic approach to evaluating and improving how your clients are positioned during sleep, with specific strategies for back sleepers, side sleepers, belly sleepers, pregnant clients, PAP users, and clients with chronic pain.

If you enroll in the full Certified Sleep Coach program within 12 months of completing SPECS, your full $499 SPECS tuition is credited toward the CSC. The CSC is priced at $999, so the effective cost after the credit is $500.

The CSC includes the complete SPECS curriculum as Module 4, so you are not repeating any content. You are building on it. Nothing you paid for SPECS is wasted.

Yes. The payment plan at $99 per month for six months is the identical program with the same content, the same credential, and the same lifetime access. The only difference is the total cost: $594 versus $499 paid in full, a difference of $95. If paying in full works for you, it is the better value. If spreading the cost makes it easier to get started, everything else is exactly the same.

Once you complete the three lessons and pass the final exam, you receive your SPECS credential and your listing goes live in the SCI Professional Directory, where individuals searching for qualified practitioners can find you.

Your access to the course never expires. The practitioner toolkit, including client intake forms, posture-focused coaching strategy guide, and client action list, is ready to use with your first client. The two business guides are there when you are ready to build out or formalize your sleep coaching services. And your 12-month window to apply your SPECS tuition toward the full CSC starts from your enrollment date.
